Nearly every year since I started the blog, I’ve shared an annual playlist for you guys to enjoy all October long.
All October posts are part of the Countdown to Halloween!
In the past, those playlists were themed around the Halloween party I used to host. In recent years, it’s been more about the vibes I’ve been feeling for the season.
This year, that vibe is 60s Halloween music.
Earlier this year, I was asked to be a guest on Ghouls Night In. Naturally, I chose to talk about Halloween music! Using a lot of knowledge I picked up from reading “Graveyard Groove” by David Accord, I walked listeners through the beginnings of spooky music right up to the release of “Monster Mash” in August 1962.
Since then, I’ve kind of been stuck in a 50s and 60s rut when it comes to music. I grew up listening to the oldies radio station (which doesn’t even exist anymore! 👵), so when I’m not sure what else to listen to, this is the timeframe I gravitate towards.
Earlier this year, I shared a secret 60s witch playlist with my email subscribers that I’ve been loving…and for this year’s blog playlist, I decided to build on that with 100 spooky songs from the 60s!
Fair warning: while I did my due diligence to verify these songs were actually released in the 1960s…you will find a handful that are from the late 1950s. I couldn’t help it, I just loved them too much to NOT include them and view them as the early wave of spooky music.
This playlist is perfect for throwing on during any Halloween activities, playing for background music, or using as a jumping-off point to create your own Halloween playlist!
