Inside Spooky Little Halloween—The Magazine 2023

This year’s issue was an interesting one: it started in Houston and ended in Minneapolis…and my new city/state had quite a bit of influence over this year’s issue! After deciding to pull an article because of the writer’s strike, I replaced it with a day spent in the Halloween Capital of the World, which is just 30 minutes away from me. I also featured a fellow Minneapolis-based creator, @halloweenhomemaker, and even visited the HalloweenCostumes.com headquarters, just 90 minutes southwest of me.

But here’s a fun fact you likely don’t know: the very first issue of my magazine was finished and sent off to print from a hotel room right here in Minneapolis. I was visiting at the end of August (god, I printed so late year one!) for my cousin’s wedding and put the finishing touches on my first magazine before exploring the city the rest of the weekend.

I’ve thought a lot about that coincidence this year as I, once again, finished the magazine from Minneapolis—but this time from my home. It’s funny how quickly things in your life come full circle, isn’t it?

Anyway…this year’s magazine was a fun one to work on. Not only do I have a ton of incredible small business owners and content creators for advertisers—we also expanded to 60 pages, once again featured some amazing people in the Halloween community, and generally celebrated Halloween together.

I’ve been working with HalloweenCostumes.com for a few years now, and it was a treat to FINALLY meet some of the people behind the scenes!

Another shout-out to Melissa from Splash of Spooky for being my one and only guest writer this year! I loved her cute and clever quiz.

The fun part of co-hosting By Pumpkin’s Light is getting to take those interviews and turn them into 1,000-word features on my friends, like this one about Amanda R. Woomer.
