The Perfect Halloween Day – Spooky Little Halloween

This was an idea that popped up when I asked what you guys wanted to see in my 2022 magazine. It seemed simple—almost too simple for a full feature—but it was an idea I found myself coming back to repeatedly.

The thing is I think we, as humans, find how others live their lives fascinating—especially when they lead a life similar to our own. In this case, celebrating the heck out of Halloween!

I’m often asked when I’m interviewed by those outside our little corner of the Internet how I celebrate October 31st. I think people usually expect me to say I do all the things.

But here’s the secret: after a busy spooky season as a content creator, I love a low-key Halloween. In an ideal world, here is what the perfect Halloween day would look like for me:

The Perfect Halloween Day

8:30-ISH A.M.

Wake up, make a pumpkin coffee because hey, it’s Halloween! This pumpkin brown sugar shaken espresso is one of my faves to make at home.

9 A.M.

Enjoy a slice or two of my mom’s pumpkin bread while reading a Halloween short story or two to set the mood for the day. Need a Halloween reading list?

9:45 A.M.

Take a shower and put on the spookiest Halloween dress I own. Accessorize with my favorite jewelry and purse from a small business I shop with. Find tons of recs in my Halloween hunting series.

10:30 A.M.

Head off to a local pumpkin patch to take in the sounds and sights one final time…and load up on a few more pumpkins. Get tips on how to pick the perfect one.

12 P.M.

Take myself to lunch at a local haunted restaurant. What better day to visit than October 31st? Find one near you by searching “haunted restaurant + your city”.

1:30 P.M.

Do one final lap through the craft stores for Halloween items on clearance. Never too early to start preparing for next year!

3:30 P.M.

At home, carve up a final jack-o-lantern or two for the big night while watching “Hocus Pocus”…again.

4:30 P.M.

Invite a few friends over for a pre-trick-or-treating happy hour. Serve up spirited and spiritless drinks, like my favorite witches’ brew, some appetizers, and maybe a pumpkin-shaped pizza.

6:30 P.M.

Turn on my Ultimate Halloween Playlist and start handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.

8:30 P.M.

Settle down for the evening with my friends and put on a classic spooky movie, like a fave Universal Monster flick or the original “Halloween”.

11 P.M.

Say goodnight to my friends, light a few candles, and do my annual Halloween night tarot reading.

11:30 P.M.

Head to bed and start dreaming up plans for next year!
